Monstera leaf Bookends
A small, weekend project that was born from plant maintenence and a need to tidy our bookshelves. The monstera bookends was a project of quick ideations and quick decision making, a refreshing way of working. The result, was a playful, fun way to inject some colour and personality to our bookshelves.
Sketching Leaves
Some quick, rough and ready sketches were drawn up to be image traced in Illustrator. This would form the main shape of the bookend
CAD Conversion
After image tracing, the drawing was brought into Solidworks, where sheet metal forming could be used to create a flange, to form the base of the bookend. In order to retain the natural form of the leaf, I added a small cut out at the base. These were then sent away to be manufactured.
Colour, Materials, Finishes
The Bookends were supplied in raw, 1mm thick mild Steel. These were spray painted with a grey primer, and then painted in a deep green to complete
